Parents can predict the future

It was the summer of 2018 and my family was visiting the United States for a “study trip”, and man, that unforgettable day was so over-heated. This was also the day I realized that making rash decisions and not listening can cost you dearly.
While we were driving in the car, our shirts were drenched in sweat as if we just finished a 20-mile marathon, even with the AC on. After what seemed like an eternity, we finally arrived at the arguably most famous attraction around the area: Disney’s Hollywood Park in Los Angeles.
When we got out of the car, my parents snapped back to Earth from their heat coma and began the tedious process of doing adulty stuff: Checking passports, buying tickets, buying water, all that sort of thing.
“Hey mom,” I shouted, after we got inside, “I’m just going to go to the wizardry area and have some fun. Can we borrow your phone for 1 hour please?”
“Fine”, my mom said reluctantly, “but if you lose it, you’re going to be in big trouble and remember….”
Without hearing the rest of her sentence, I dashed to one side and merged into a huge tourist group.
Everything was going well. I bought some refreshments for myself, and the phone was still safely stored IN MY POCKET.
It was time for the final and by far the largest roller coaster in the park. The coaster car was slowly ascending the ramp, more than 20 meters tall, and I almost reached the top. That’s when I forgot that this ride had a lot of twists and turns and that my mother’s phone was still in my pocket.
BAM.
The sound of the phone hitting the ground below the ramp startled me.
When the ride was finished, I immediately ran to the meeting spot, without stopping. By the look on my face, my mom deducted that I did the thing she specifically told me not to: I lost her phone.
Yet I also saw another emotion on her face: there was definitely anger, but there was also some sort of joy, like an I-told-you-so face.
“I knew that you were going to lose my phone somehow”, my mom explained, “so I took out the SIM card before I gave it to you. But you still have to pay the consequences”.
And that is how I lost MY phone.
Well, hmm. I guess I realized how intelligent my mom is -- and how well she knows me through and through.
