My OWN Elective!

Today I have a special announcement (as you can see in the title) — I am going to start my own elective class in school! AND I’m not just taking it — I am developing it and teaching it for a whole of 16 weeks. The name of my course, as I have chosen, is “AP Teenage-hood”, hoping that it will seem more interesting than something called “Stress Coping, Conflict Resolving, Clear Communication class”. But basically , this is indeed what my class in mainly about.

However, today we are not talking about the contents of the class. Instead, I want to share what happened before this class even started. I knew early that I’m going to start a class, and so I had plenty of time to search the internet about things that I think are possibly a great topic to talk about. Those were the fun days, where I would watch videos and read articles all day long, really having nothing else to worry about. I also jotted down notes when something in the lesson gave me a moment of insight, and by now there are plenty of accumulated facts and guesses.

When it comes to really negotiating with the school about the class, though, it went from real fun to really boring. The school wants me to turn it into a mental health class which, though I would say that it does help mental health, was not my original intention to teach at all. Finally they accepted that and let me take full charge of what can be taught in my class! It was a really difficult process but I’m glad I made it. :)

Sneak-peek: One of the topics will be about why you will always find someone who does literally nothing in group-projects — why do they do that? I know that is really suffering for group members, so if you want to know more about how to change that situation, follow my blog!
